Angel Wings

“Broken and dusty angel wings that have forgotten how to fly

Empty and saddened mirror eyes watching the earth pass her by

There’s dust swirling in the air like a dysfunctional dancer

And the methodical ticking of a clock the only answer

To the heartwrenching pain that causes her to cry

Glasslike and solitary, a single tear that refuses to dry.

Tired and fragile bones that creak and groan with the weight of the world

Whispered and faint, her plea for help goes unheard

The sun shades the sky colors of flames burning bright

Numerous hours await before stars dance in the night

She buries her face in her hands and her soul in a word

And silently dreams of soaring free like a bird

How she wishes, hopes, imagines it would feel to embody that word: alive.”
